When we come home from a long day, many of us want to update the people closest to us about the activities that went on. Should we face the travel barrier, there are 3 ways that we can connect back to our loved ones, the ways are by video calls, voice chats, or text messages.

Moving out of India will feel easier when you have the ability to connect to your loved ones back home. Now that you know the three ways to connect back to your loved ones, let’s look at the applications you need to download on your Phones or Laptops to do so.

Zoom

Zoom is a platform that was popularised by many during the Pandemic. Many companies have been using this video conferencing software to host meetings.

With its free plan, you’ll get 30 minutes of free talk time for one-to-one meetings and 40 minutes free for group meetings. It will be so much easier and comforting to see the smiles of your family and the beauty of your home through this platform. What makes it better is that for 40-minute conferences, you can host up to 100 people. This means that connecting back to your loved ones in India hasn’t been easier

Skype

This platform has been around since 2003, that’s almost 19 years! Despite the long history, Microsoft has stated that it still sees 40 million active users a day as of 2020.

This platform is great for free video and audio calls over the internet. Unlike zoom, there is no time limit for conversations with your loved ones. However, there is a limit of up to 50 people when you want to host a group call. The paid plan on Skype allows your folks who may not be well versed with the internet to make international phone calls and to SMS anyone abroad. This is a great option for when you’re elder loved ones are alone and you wish to call them whilst overseas! Overall, Skype helps you cope with the travel barrier when you move out of India.

Facetime

Facetime is an app on most apple devices that allows you to make free video and audio calls to other Apple users.

If you’re an Android user, we’re sorry! but this one is for our Apple fanatics. If you have an Apple device, you’ve probably already used the function on your device. For those who haven’t, Facetime helps you to connect with your loved ones without using a third-party app like Zoom or Skype. With its many new functions like screen sharing and Memoji, you’ll expect loads of fun whilst conversing over the Internet. However, the sad part about this is that only 32 people are allowed in the group chats and anyone who intends to do so needs to own an Apple device as well.

Whether it’s to learn a recipe from Mum or to watch talk to your folks, Facetime is a great way to connect to your loved ones back in India. This is a great option especially if your family members are avid users of Apple!

2. Sharing the good times together

Moving out of India is an interesting process. Many of us want to show our family members how life is through photos. All you really need to do is to upload your photos onto a server and share the link with your loved ones so that they can access them!

Dropbox

Dropbox is a form of “cloud storage” where you can store your files over the internet. This platform is a file hosting service that will help you store your data on its server.

This platform offers free 2GB of online storage. The ability to store files or the photos you’ve taken makes keeping important items for you easier. You can store your desired files on any devices connected to the Dropbox server so there is definitely not much of a hassle with Dropbox! Besides the convenient storage, it is very easy to share memories with your loved ones. All you need to do is send a link to them which will allow them to access the files you grant permission to!

Everything has its downside, for some, it may be the limited free storage that Dropbox offers. If you do find yourself in need of more storage, there are plans for you to upgrade your space. One of the options would be to get the Dropbox Plus which will cost you $10 a month for an extra 2 TB of space.

Google Photos

This platform allows users to upload photos to the Google server. In cloud-based storage, you have unlimited free space to store all photos you wish to keep.

Google photos allow you to store photos and videos on to its server. It is as simple as sending your loved ones the link to access the desired memories. The best benefit of using Google photos would have to be the unlimited storage that it offers its users. You shouldn’t worry about the quality of your photos as Google stores the photos in 16MP!
