What kind of shipment should I pick?
We offer 3 types of shipments; LCL (Less than container load), FCL (Full container load) and groupage (or consolidation). The type of shipment is dependant on the volume of the shipment and the quantity of moves to the same area. If you require further assistance, feel free to contact us and we will advise you on the most suitable shipment.
FCL shipment is quoted when you have enough volume to fill a full 20-foot or 40-foot container, and grants you exclusive right to use a dedicated ocean cargo container for your own consignment. It is usually a faster and more cost effective option if you have sufficient volume to fill more than half the container, as it eliminates additional handling and transportation fees.
LCL shipment is usually quoted when you do not have enough volume to fill a reasonable amount of space in a 20-foot container. LCL shipment is a more cost effective method of shipping for smaller consignments, as it enables you to combine with other shipping consignments headed for the same destination. If you have some flexibility in your schedule, you may consider this option – this is almost as speedy as having an exclusive containter, and is viable for smaller shipment volumes.
Groupage shipping is a cost effective way to ship smaller shipments (below half a 20-foot Container). This type of shipping involves grouping your goods together with others that are travelling to the same destination, so that they can make up full containers. Shipments are packed and held in the warehouses until a container that is bound for your destination is filled. This is also known as consolidation shipping.
